Breast Screenings
Mammogram produces a detailed X-ray image of your breast and looks for early signs of breast cancer. It has two plates that compress your breast to spread the tissue apart.
Ultrasound reveals breast changes, such as lumps and fluid-filled cysts not seen on a mammogram. This uses a handheld, wand-like instrument called a transducer, which a breast surgeon places on the skin's surface with gel.
Diagnostic Tests
Breast Biopsy removes a sample of breast tissue to determine if a breast lump is cancerous. It may require general anaesthesia and a large needle to obtain the sample.
Breast Magnetic Resonance Imaging captures multiple breast images to assess the extent of cancer. It uses an MRI machine with a large, central opening where you may need to lie facedown on a padded scanning table.
